Ultrasound Therapy

What is Ultrasound Therapy?

Ultrasound is a common non-invasive therapy used to treat back and neck pain, tendon and ligament injury, muscle spasms, joint problems and other spine related conditions. Ultrasound is a form of deep heat therapy created by sound waves. When applied to soft tissues and joints, the sound waves are a form of micro-massage that help reduce swelling, increase blood flow, and decrease pain, stiffness, and spasms. From patients who have suffered car accidents to those that have chronic back pain from any number of sources, ultrasound therapy can help you.

ultrasound therapyWhy is Ultrasound Treatment Used?

Ultrasound Therapy is used to speed the healing of a joint, muscle or tendon. The thermal affects from the energy produced by the sound waves speeds healing and reduces inflammation. Another effect is that which results from the vibrating of tissue. The vibration seems to stimulate cell membranes which encourages repairing effects of cells in inflamed areas.

What can I expect from my treatment?

Ultrasound therapy is a painless procedure, and many people find it relaxing. During the treatment the practitioner applies gel to the patient’s skin to help transmit the ultrasound waves into the tissues. The ultrasound probe is gently swirled over this area. Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to deliver heat deep into tissues (e.g. muscles). This therapy promotes circulation and healing, relaxes muscle spasm, decreases inflammation and helps to alleviate pain.
